It’s strange that after all these years of humans improving and learning that there is no quick overall guide to optimal human health. If there is one, we couldn’t find it, so we started this one.
Here are our current “Ten Commandments” of Human Health. 2019 Update
Location: Thou shalt dwell in a good environment. Live where the air and water are clean, the crime is low, and the weather is often good. Improve, clean and organize your environment continuously.
Food: Thou shalt eat the healthiest freshest local foods available to you; use spices and avoid processed foods, additives and preservatives. Work with a health coach if needed to find your personal right balance of protein to carbs to fats. Enjoy eating, eat real foods, not too much. Stop eating when 2/3rds full. Fast occasionally. Eat real healthy fats: like olive oil, avocado oil, and coconut oil. This includes not eating out at restaurants more than once or twice a week and not eating too much junk food.
Exercise: Thou shalt establish a daily movement routine you enjoy. Regular walks, high intensity training (sprints), pull-ups, push-ups, jumping rope, swimming, yoga, sports, etc. mix it up. Weights 3x per week, every other day. Enlist partners, people you enjoy exercising with, or take a class.
Connect: Thou shalt socialize and share with others who share your goals. Get and give affection, be in love, have sex, meet new people, help others every chance you get. Physical health is improved by social health.
Rejuvenate: Thou shalt relax deeply daily. Avoid too much negative stress. Dissipate it by doing things that relax you daily. E.g.: Make music, art, write, etc. but also have downtime that is non-goal directed.
Hygiene: Thou shalt be clean and good smelling at all times. Practice good tooth care: Brush teeth with a remineralizing toothpaste, floss and use a remineralizing solution after every meal. Skin care: Take an alternating hot to cold shower daily. This improves circulation, relieves depression, strengthens the immune system, makes hair shinier and skin smoother. Use hygiene products with few or no unnatural chemicals.
Finance: Thou shalt thrive in business and cultivate money security. To afford good food, a healthy living space, medical care and more, adequate funds are needed.
Sleep: Thou shalt get about 7.5 hours of quality sleep every night. Fix a regular schedule for waking and sleeping. Stop drinking four hours before bed. Find the right temperature. Keep a totally dark room. Muscle is built and the brain is cleaned during sleep.
Strategize: Thou shalt replace bad habits, (smoking, excess drinking, etc.) with new healthy habits. Evaluate your progress for a few minutes per day, reviewing successes and failures and making new goals. Avoid what does not serve you well.
Grow: Continually learn and engage with what you learn to keep the mind and spirit active and healthy. Challenge your preconceptions. Listen to multiple perspectives, develop good information filters, travel, explore with enjoyment.
Meditate: Dedicate at least 15 minutes a day to mindfulness meditation. This activity improves health and lifespan.
Chill: Thou shalt not be uptight. A top ten list with thirteen items is fine. No one cares. Don’t cling, let it be, do your best then shrug it off, keep trying, but don’t fight reality. What is is. Whatever. Make the best of it all the way. Focus on the good.
